The Company was incorporated in 1978 to oversee operations in onshore concession areas covering approximately 21,000 square kilometers including five of the most important mainland oilfields in the region. During the first quarter of 2006, the inauguration of the North East BAB has been started.
Job Purpose & Scope:
Evaluates & recommends new design and types of downhole equipment that achieves required objectives and reduces capital cost. Draws up specifications and inspection requirements. Prepares technical evaluations of quotation for drilling equipment. Allocates and follows up equipment to be used in each well. Evaluates & investigates downhole equipment related problems and advice corrective actions/alternatives. Ensures adequate supply of required tools & equipment. Follows up contracts related to downhole equipment services.
Downhole equipment includes (casing, tubing, liner hangers, float equipment, cementing accessories & well cellars)
Equipment engineer (downhole) is responsible for the efficient performance of the following duties:
a. Evaluates and select appropriate equipment to achieve well design and objectives.
b. Evaluates bid for downhole equipment and review specifications to ensure that all equipment to be purchased conforms to company as well as International standards. Recommends awards for purchase from the successful bidders
c. Ensures that downhole equipment are correctly specified in enquiries and purchase orders and proper QA/QC procedures are implemented.
d. Reviews and updates material standards and specifications for downhole equipment.
e. Updates equipment failure data base and issue report quarterly.
f. Introduces new technology related to downhole equipment, pre-qualify of new suppliers.
g. Follows up the well operation and ensure downhole equipment availability ahead of time and suitability for different well designs.
h. Coordinates with drilling engineers and contractors to ensure delivery of required equipment to rigs on time.
i. Evaluates new techniques introduced into ADCO related to downhole equipment and conducts technical evaluation of downhole equipment enquiries.
j. Assists in planning, cost estimates, and specify the required downhole equipment needs as per Business plan.
k. Liaises with other teams and ensures adequate supply of required tools & equipment.
l. Coordinates with suppliers and other companies to keep abreast with new development. Provide technical support, studies & recommends new products and techniques jointly with other groups to improve safety, performance and cost effectiveness. Prepare proposals & recommendations for new trials.
m. Investigates downhole equipment problems and liaise with suppliers for rectification / corrective actions. Recommends solutions and alternatives.
n. Ensures continuous learning processes are being applied from previous wells and peer reviews/assists.
o. Preparing cost estimates and risk in terms of probability and potential remedies.
p. Issues minor work orders and task orders for downhole equipment services.
q. Performs other related duties as assigned by his supervisor such as preparing reports, statistics, attending technical presentations/meetings/workshops.
r. Follows up with downhole equipment failures with the suppliers, witness the disassembly of failed item at supplier workshop, recommends the corrective actions and modifications.
s. Drives and enforces the HSE rules and regulation compliance in the working environment so as to safeguard the safety of the personnel, the company's asset and uphold the company's image.
t. Knows the Company Health, Safety and Environment Policy, Procedures, Regulations and Objectives as they relate to his/her area of responsibility. Ensures that work under his/her control is performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Conducts effective accident investigation and follow up. Implements specific Safety Management System Programme activities assigned to him/her.
The job incumbent plays major role in evaluating and selection of right downhole equipment for each specific job.

- Air conditioned, Office 80 % of time
- Occasional trips to Rigs, Drilling workshop, Supplier’s facilities.
Reports to Senior Equipment Engineer (downhole)
Works according to established procedures, professional standards and techniques. Keeps Supervisor advised with progress. Completed work is subject to review and direction by Supervisor.
Regular contacts with Drilling & other divisions relative to his job assignments. Frequent contacts with suppliers, manufacturers to finalize specification, evaluate new equipment and tackle specific problems.
Latitude Exercised, Decision Making authority and Responsibility
Reports to the Senior Equipment Engineer (downhole). Works according to Drilling & Petroleum Engineering standards and practices. Refers to his supervisor on major problems. Completed work is subject to review and directions.
Works at his sole capacity to achieve the required work assignments.
Successful Performance in this role is measured by establishing metrics in the following areas:
Cost optimization in downhole equipment vs objectives met.
Introduction of new suppliers, new equipment…
Minimum Qualification, Knowledge, Skills and Experience/ (Key Competencies)
a. B.Sc in Petroleum, Mechanical, or relevant Engineering discipline
b. At least 6 years experience in Oil & Gas industry, including minimum 2 years involvement in well downhole equipment.
c. Exposure in Planning and good knowledge of budgeting and financial matters
d. Thorough knowledge of drilling equipment and drilling operations activities.
e. Demonstrates ability to clearly assess operational risks. Strongly believe in HSE culture.
f. Excellent communication skills, business focus, Solutions oriented
g. An ability to actively liaise with other engineering and subsurface disciplines such as production engineering and reservoir engineering.
h. Very good knowledge of English language.
